How this quiz is built

The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks (Zone of Genius)

Gay Hendricks, a psychologist and executive coach, argues that most capable people get stuck in what he calls the Zone of Excellence: work they do very well, that other people value, and that quietly drains them. It feels safe because it pays and earns praise, so they stay for years.

Above that sits the Zone of Genius: the work you are uniquely suited to, that energises you rather than depleting you, and that often feels almost too easy to charge for. Hendricks' claim is that real fulfilment, and usually better income, comes from deliberately moving toward genius work, even though excellence work looks like the sensible option.

For someone starting a business this matters enormously. A business built on your Zone of Excellence can succeed on paper while burning you out. The same business built on your Zone of Genius is one you can sustain for a decade.

Where this shows up in the quiz

Step 3 applies this directly: for every business idea you listed, you mark whether the daily work would lift you or wear you out. Ideas that only sit in your Zone of Excellence get flagged as traps in your results.
